After these two German Shepherd brothers were adopted in March of 2025, the adopter noticed Bode was having pain or trouble walking. With the help of Sandoval Animal Services, Bode was taken to Gruda Vet in Santa Fe in July 2025. It was discovered that he had a birth defect that caused his elbows to not be fused as normal. Sandoval moved monies from the medical fund that is raised by donations and the generosity of the public and adopters to fully cover Bode's orthoscopic surgery. He is now in recovery and should soon be able to function and live a normal doggy life.
